Alok Kumar, the All India President of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), emphasized the central role of temples in the Hindu community, asserting that their greatness lies entirely in their spiritual and cultural significance. He highlighted that temples historically served as centers for social, cultural, and judicial matters, often resolving disputes in villages. Speaking at the "Haindava Shankharavam" organized by the VHP at Kesarapalli near Vijayawada, Kumar criticized the historical British takeover of temple lands, alleging that the British targeted around five lakh acres of temple land in the southern states to undermine the cultural and religious significance of temples, while sparing places of worship of other religions.

He called for the wealth generated by major temples to be used solely for the protection of Dharma and criticized the allocation of funds for audits and administrative purposes, such as in the case of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD). Kumar demanded that the management of temples be returned to the Hindu community, asserting that reports suggesting any transfer of control to other organizations were false. He called for the management to remain within Hindu society, ensuring transparency, accountability, and respect for priests. Urging the government to release temples from their control, he emphasized that temple funds should be used exclusively for Hindu community needs and not diverted for non-religious purposes.
