Eyewitnesses recounted that the sudden attack led to a violent backlash, with clashes erupting between both sides. In the chaos that followed, several vehicles were vandalised, and at least two vehicles and two shops were set on fire by Islamists.
A resident of Mhow, who witnessed the violence unfold, said, “The rally was moving peacefully, but as it passed near the Jama Masjid, a section of islamists started throwing stones. This triggered a reaction, and soon, the situation spiraled out of control. People ran for their lives, and the miscreants torched vehicles and shops.”
As the violence escalated, local authorities responded by deploying heavy police forces from Indore rural and Indore city. Riot control personnel were rushed in to bring the situation under control. Army units stationed in Mhow, being a cantonment town, were on alert, but no additional military deployment was deemed necessary.
Speaking on the matter, Indore Rural Superintendent of Police (SP) Hitika Vasal said, “Tension arose between two groups, leading to stone pelting and arson. The violence was reportedly triggered by an issue over firecrackers during the rally. As of now, we have confirmed reports of three injured persons. The situation is completely under control, and we urge the public not to believe any fake news. Adequate security forces are in place, and we are patrolling the area. The matter will be investigated thoroughly, and those responsible will face strict legal action.”
