He said Seva should empower those receiving it to become providers of service themselves. He also called upon capable members of society to visit Seva Bastis and build close, personal relationships with the people living there.
He said that 257 Seva Bastis have been identified in Jaipur, where work is needed in education, healthcare, self-reliance, security and self-respect. He explained that RSS swayamsevaks began using the term ‘Seva Basti’ instead of ‘slum’ to encourage society to view these areas not merely through the lens of deprivation but as centres of service and social responsibility.
Dattatreya Hosabale said that providing facilities such as education and healthcare is one aspect of seva. The other important aspect is to instil confidence among those in need that they, too, can contribute to society. He said that the divine resides in every individual and that everyone should have the opportunity to live with dignity and self-confidence.
Referring to the birth anniversary of Maharishi Valmiki, he said that Bhagwan Ram demonstrated the importance of every member of society through his affection for Kevat, Shabari and the squirrel.
Dattatreya Hosabale cited the spirit of service demonstrated by retired doctors and other workers associated with Seva Sadan. He mentioned that one retired doctor travels four to five kilometres every day to participate in service activities. This shows that distance is not important when the spirit of service is strong.
He urged people to visit the Sanskar Kendras in Seva Bastis, spend time with children and celebrate occasions such as birthdays and Diwali with them. Families should also be encouraged to participate in these activities.
He said that direct participation, along with financial support, would strengthen the feeling that everyone belongs to one society and is a child of Bharat Mata.
Strengthening this unity through service is an important task in nation-building.
The programme was held in the presence of Naval Peethadhishwar Sant Munna Das Ji Khoda. Sanjay Gupta, director of Mangalam Group, attended as the chief guest, while Nikhil Jain and Vijendra Singh Tanwar were present as special guests.
