Assam Election: FIR lodged by RSS & BJP against Congress President Kharge for hate speech during election rally

In a display of utter desperation and hate against Hindu, Kharge, in an election rally in South Karimganj constituency in Sribhumi district, provoked Muslim supporters of the party to attack RSS-BJP workers even if they needed to leave Namaz halfway, comparing RSS and BJP with venomous snakes.

Kharge said, “ It is written in the Quran, if you see a venomous snake you have to kill it even if you need to leave your namaz halfway. The RSS-BJP are like venomous snakes, if you don’t kill them leaving your namaz you will not be safe.”

The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), through its Uttar Assam Prant and Dakshin Assam Prant units, has formally submitted police complaints at Dispur Police Station in Guwahati and Silchar Police Station, respectively, seeking legal action over alleged derogatory, provocative, and communally sensitive statements made during a recent election rally in South Assam.

The statements by the Congress president allegedly compared the ideology of the RSS and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to a “poisonous snake” and suggested its elimination.

The RSS has expressed serious concern that such remarks are inflammatory in nature and capable of inciting hostility, intimidation, and violence against workers and supporters of the RSS and the BJP while invoking religious sentiments during an election campaign.

The complaints assert that the statement constitutes a corrupt electoral practice under Section 83 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, and further allege that the remarks criminally intimidated the public and promoted enmity between supporters of different political and social groups. The complainants have argued that describing the ideology of RSS and BJP as “poisonous” and allegedly calling for their elimination could be interpreted as encouraging bodily harm against members and supporters of these organisations.

The FIR submissions further state that the remarks attempt to promote communal division between Hindu and Muslim communities, potentially disturbing public peace and harmony in Assam and influencing the electoral environment. The complaints warn that such statements may lead to communal tensions or clashes if not addressed promptly by authorities.

The RSS has emphasised that democratic discourse must remain within constitutional and legal boundaries and that electoral campaigning should not resort to language capable of endangering social cohesion or public peace, said Khagen Saikia, Prant Karyavah, Uttar Axom Prant and Jyotsnamoy Chakraborty, Prant Sanghchalak Dakshin Assam Prant, who have filed the complaints.

Meanwhile, the BJP also lodged an FIR against the Congress president’s provocative comment at the Guwahati police station.

Assam BJP said that in a desperate attempt to appease the vote bank, the Congress party has stooped to the extent of targeting the sacred symbols of Sanatan civilisation. The Assam Pradesh Bharatiya Janata Party strongly condemns the deeply offensive and irresponsible remarks made during an election rally on April 6, which amounted to an outright insult to Hindu beliefs and traditions.

The demand by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge to ban RSS-BJP not only reflects political intolerance but also exposes the intellectual bankruptcy within the party’s top leadership. The Sanatan civilisation has always revered nature and its elements, including animals and other living beings, as sacred. However, in a calculated attempt to polarise voters, Congress has tried to portray even the sacred ornaments of Lord Shiva as harmful, thereby hurting the sentiments of millions of devotees.

Such statements are not only condemnable but also dangerous for social harmony. Taking serious note of this provocative and divisive rhetoric, the Assam BJP has lodged a formal FIR at the Basistha Police Station in Guwahati and submitted a complaint to the Assam State Election Commission. The party has demanded immediate legal action against Mallikarjun Kharge for spreading inflammatory and socially disruptive statements during the election campaign.
